About Bodymoor Heath

This lovely rural area is well known as the home of the training ground for Aston Villa Football Club, the land was purchased by Doug Ellis from a local farmer during the early 1970's. Since this time many of the clubs famous players have either built or purchased homes in the area.

The beautiful Warwickshire countryside of the area is enhanced by the Birmingham to Fazeley Canal which opened in 1789 primarily for use of coal transportation. In the 1970's the county's first ever redevelopment of an inner city canal took place on the Birmingham to Fazeley Canal at the top of the Farmers Bridge flight. Thus, the canal survives today, its countryside paths provide attractive walking places, and its waters are the scene of pretty narrow boats, other river craft and a rich variety of canal wildlife.

At Bodymoor Heath boaters pass old picturesque Victorian cottages, with the Dog and Doublet pub being found a short distance from Bodymoor Heath bridge where there is a newly renovated towpath.
